MAS*, the Media Application Server, the X.Org supported open source, X Licensed, media-data transport and timing layer will be described. MAS internal architecture, API, Toolkit support, coding standards, will be described. Operating demos will be given.

MAS* is an open-source standard for audio and multi-media on Linux*. We will present a live demonstration of MAS, a new Open-Source Licensed "Media Application Server" for Linux*. MAS specifications, architecture, API, sample applications will be described in detail. Interoperability support for the X Window System will also be described. The open development environment now being maintained for collaborators will be described. We will give particular attention to critical differences between MAS and other audio and multi- media solutions now in use. We will describe and demonstrate performance statistics. We will discuss the supporting role of X.Org, the X Window System Standards organization, in the building of a Standards-based solution to this problem.
